Clipsham Stone is extracted from the quarry with drills and buckets.
It is never blasted, but very occasionally ‘nudged’ to split at the natural beds by a little black powder.
We quarry block between 2 and 3 times a year and therefore use
sub-contractors rather than direct labour. We aim to maintain a supply of block throughout the year. Within the constraints imposed by sub-contracting we try to be responsive
to our customers
needs and can, if demand requires, extract additional stone.

Once quarried the blocks are then squared off using drill, plugs and feathers. The stone is graded by size block shape and quality. ‘DH’ blocks are the best quality, well squared off and weighing between 2 and 8 tonnes.
We currently have a small supply of 'H' block measuring a minimum 800mm on the bed'
‘O’ blocks are equally good in quality, but tend to be irregular shapes with more potential waste for the end user.
We also have a supply of walling and rockery stone, varying in size.
